Islam is a monotheistic Abrahamic religion that originated in the 7th century CE in the Arabian Peninsula. It was founded by Prophet Muhammad, who Muslims believe received revelations from Allah (God) through the angel Gabriel. The central text of Islam is the Quran, considered the literal word of God. Islam is characterized by its Five Pillars: Shahada (faith), Salat (prayer), Zakat (charity), Sawm (fasting during Ramadan), and Hajj (pilgrimage to Mecca). Muslims follow these pillars as a guide for their faith and practice.
